Millerton Lake State Recreation Area offers excellent boating and paddling opportunities on the vast Millerton Lake. The lake features three major boat ramps, two large 10-lane ramps on the south side and a single 2-lane ramp on the north side near the Meadows Campground. The north ramp has been extended significantly during drought conditions to maintain access.
The lake itself is a reservoir formed by the Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River, providing over 40 miles of scenic shoreline for water sports, fishing, and exploring. Boaters and paddlers can expect calm, flat water conditions well-suited for kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats. Nearby campgrounds provide convenient overnight options for those looking to spend multiple days on the water. The San Joaquin River Gorge Visitor Center, open on weekends, offers more information about the natural and cultural history of the area. Whether you're launching a boat or paddling a kayak, Millerton Lake provides an excellent freshwater recreation destination in California's Central Valley.
