**Location & Facilities**
Moccasin Point, located in Tower near the north shore of Lake Vermilion, offers a dedicated canoe and kayak launch area alongside boat ramp facilities. The site features a concrete loading pier for transferring supplies and equipment, and includes amenities for watercraft inspection, draining, and cleaning to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.
**Current Status & Planning**
Note that Moccasin Point is undergoing improvements through summer 2026, with limited launch access maintained during this period for barge operations and Moccasin Point Marine when feasible. The DNR encourages boaters to plan ahead and consider alternative access points. Lake Vermilion has 17 public water access sites throughout the lake, with the nearest alternative being Blackduck Bay Public Water Access, approximately 1.4 miles away. Overnight parking is allowed at 11 DNR-managed sites on the lake, providing flexibility for multi-day paddling trips.
**Lake Context**
Lake Vermilion is a popular destination for paddling and recreation, surrounded by scenic public islands and varied shoreline. This is a reliable access point for exploring the larger lake, though paddlers should verify current conditions and closures before visiting during the 2026 construction period.
