The Momence Anchor Club provides convenient boat ramp access to the Kankakee River in Momence, Kankakee County. This is a well-maintained facility with paid parking and year-round bathrooms available. The ramp offers easy launch access to a major river system suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.
The Kankakee River at this location is a substantial waterway—a major river with an average flow of 5,683 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of approximately 1.4 feet per mile. Paddlers should be prepared for a river with noticeable current and water movement. The access point is strategically located near the Momence Dam (just west of Illinois Route 1 bridge), which requires a portage on river right at the Momence Police Department. Downstream, paddlers will find the river flows through scenic areas including Kankakee State Park before eventually reaching the Illinois River.
This is an excellent starting point for day trips or longer paddling expeditions on the Kankakee River, with plenty of water to explore in either direction once you navigate any necessary portages around local dams.
