About This Access Site
The Montello boat ramp provides public access to the Fox River, a large, well-established waterway (Stream Order 7) with an average flow of 2,347 cubic feet per second. Located off Lake Street on the west side of Lake Montello, this is a popular launch point that sees regular use. The ramp features an outhouse facility and a trail system for exploring the nearby "island" area if you have time before or after paddling.

Paddlers should be aware that the Fox River in this section has been re-engineered for boat traffic, resulting in a straighter, less meandering course with moderate current (average velocity 3.63 feet/second). The Montello Dam creates Lake Montello at this location, so boaters should understand what water conditions they'll encounter based on their intended direction of travel. The river features fish ladder infrastructure, indicating this is an active recreation and restoration area.

**Access Rules:** This is a walk-in access site only—no motorized vehicles are permitted at the landing. No open fires or camping are allowed to preserve the scenic and historic qualities of the Upper Fox River. The landing can be busy during peak seasons, though the east ramp reportedly sees lighter use if you prefer quieter conditions.
