About This Access Site
Montrose Lake is a 1,500-acre recreational lake in Henry County, Missouri, offering excellent opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. The public boat ramp at the conservation area provides access to both open lake waters and marshy coves, making it ideal for paddlers interested in varied scenery and wildlife observation. The lake is designated for boat use and attracts waterfowl and other wildlife throughout the year, particularly in the marshland areas accessible from the northern sections of the lake.

**Practical Notes for Paddlers:** This is a smaller, single-lane boat ramp without dock facilities or lighting. The ramp is located straight across the lake from the discharge area. Navigation after dark can be challenging, especially on a first visit—consider using GPS if planning evening paddles. The lake operates under an idle-speed or 10 mph power restriction in many areas, which makes it safe for paddlers. Be aware that the conservation area has placed numerous spawning structures (55-gallon steel barrels) throughout the lake; exercise caution and go slowly, particularly in unfamiliar areas. The nearby marshlands offer calmer paddling conditions compared to the main lake and are worth exploring for nature photography and wildlife viewing.
