About This Access Site
Montrose Lake is a 1,500-acre public lake in Henry County, Missouri, offering paddlers and boaters access via a public boat ramp at the conservation area. The lake features both open water and marshland areas, making it suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. Note that this is an idle-speed or slow-speed lake (10 hp or less for extended operation), which makes it particularly appealing for paddlers seeking a quieter experience.

**Practical Information:** The boat ramp is a single-lane facility with no dock or lighting, so plan your trip accordingly—night launches and landings can be challenging, especially on your first visit. GPS is highly recommended if you plan to return after dark. The lake bottom contains numerous submerged spawning structures (55-gallon barrels), so operate at idle speed and stay alert. You can access both the main lake and marshland areas; the marshlands on the north side offer calmer conditions and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly waterfowl. The dam access point closes its gate after 10 p.m., so verify access times before planning an evening paddle.
