About This Access Site
Moose Lake Boating Area, located six miles north of Pennington off Highway 39 (Lady Slipper Scenic Highway), offers a well-maintained public access point for paddlers and boaters. The site features a double concrete boat ramp with a center dock positioned near the southeast shore, providing reliable launching conditions for kayaks, canoes, and smaller to medium-sized motorboats. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the park office, making it a convenient option for those without their own equipment.

The lake itself spans 9,528 acres and is known for excellent fishing opportunities, particularly for muskie (30-40 pounders), walleye, largemouth bass, crappies, and panfish. The area is particularly scenic during fall with beautiful reflections and morning fog. Moose Lake State Park offers 35 campsites nearby—20 with electric hookups and 15 non-electric wooded sites—all within walking distance of the visitor center, beach, and fishing pier, making it ideal for paddlers planning multi-day trips. Those seeking more primitive paddling experiences can explore the broader Moose Lake Chain system.
