The Mount Etna Boat Ramp provides convenient access to Salamonie Lake from the southeast corner of the lake off S 700 W in Huntington County. This single-lane concrete ramp features paved parking and is one of five boat ramp options around the lake, making it a reliable launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The location serves as a gateway to exploring this scenic lake, which derives its name from the Native American word "O-sah-mo-nee," meaning "yellow paint."
Beyond the ramp itself, the Mount Etna area offers additional recreation opportunities. The nearby Mount Etna State Recreation Area features hiking trails through open fields and forested areas with moderate difficulty ratings and elevation changes. The scenic bluffs surrounding the lake provide beautiful water views. For those seeking shorter outings, the Tree Trail—a one-mile woodland walk—starts from the Lost Bridge West SRA parking lot and offers an easy alternative. Kilsoquah Camp is available for overnight stays within 10 miles of the access site.
