Mt. Pleasant is a straightforward public boat ramp providing access to Lake J. Strom Thurmond (Savannah River) in McCormick County, South Carolina. Located off County Road 56 just north of US Highway 17, this site offers a paved boat ramp and parking area—ideal for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. The facility is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which maintains 26 boat ramps across the lake's 71,100 acres.
Lake J. Strom Thurmond is a large, deep impoundment with an average depth of 37 feet and maximum depths exceeding 139 feet, making it suitable for various watercraft. Paddlers should expect a lake environment rather than river current. The lake offers excellent fishing and recreational opportunities across its 1,200 miles of shoreline. For camping options, Morrow Bridge and Midway Seasonal Camps are available within 10 miles of the access point.
