About This Access Site
Located near Ball Club in Cass County, the Mud Lake southeast boat ramp offers a concrete launch facility for accessing this shallow, scenic lake. The ramp accommodates boats up to 12-18 feet and features ample parking with outhouses nearby. A state park vehicle permit is required; use the self-pay station at the entrance. Note that goose droppings are common at the ramp, so watch your footing when launching.

Mud Lake is characterized by sandy/gravelly bottom substrate with abundant wild rice and waterlilies throughout. The lake supports populations of black crappie and bass, making it popular with anglers. Paddlers can also access Mud Lake via Mud Brook from Island Lake for smaller to medium-sized boats. This is a relatively limited-access site, so it serves as an important launch point for exploring the lake and its connected waterways near the Mississippi River Headwaters region.
