Nelson Creek

Nelson Creek is a year-round boat ramp facility located on the Big Dry Arm section of Fort Peck Lake in McCone County, Montana. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation area offers a concrete boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats onto the expansive 245,000-acre Fort Peck Lake reservoir. The access point is popular with paddlers and boaters traveling from southern Montana seeking convenient lake access with scenic views.

The site provides primitive camping amenities including 25 designated campsites, picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets—making it a good option for multi-day paddling trips. Nelson Creek is well-suited for recreational boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Note that access roads are gravel and dirt, so check conditions before visiting, particularly during wet weather. The nearest town services are in Jordan, about 26 miles south.
