Nobels Island

Located 5 miles south of Harpers Ferry on Highway 364, Nobels Island offers two public boat launching ramps on the Mississippi River at Pool 9. This access point is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore the Upper Mississippi River Valley's scenic waters between Genoa, Wisconsin and Lynxville, Wisconsin. In addition to the launching facilities, the area provides picnicking areas and shoreline fishing access.

The Mississippi River at this location is a major waterway with substantial flow—averaging over 685,000 cubic feet per second with an average velocity of 11.24 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for the river's power and current. The area includes both public and private launch options: Bay Point offers a public asphalt ramp with restrooms, while nearby Island Campground and Marina provides a private concrete ramp with camping, fuel, and full amenities (fees apply).

The Nobels Island area also places you within reach of cultural attractions like Effigy Mounds National Monument, making it an excellent base for exploring both water-based recreation and the region's natural and historical significance.
