About This Access Site
North Bootlegger is a remote boat ramp providing access to Lake Elwell (Tiber Reservoir) on the Marias River in north-central Montana. Located about 10 miles upstream from Tiber Dam, this undeveloped recreation area offers a concrete boat launch with ample parking and primitive camping facilities. The site is situated on a gravel road approximately 35 miles from the nearest major turn, making it suitable primarily for self-sufficient visitors with their own equipment and supplies—no rentals, food services, or amenities are available.

Lake Elwell is a large reservoir with 21,300 surface acres and 181 miles of shoreline, offering fishing opportunities for northern pike, walleye, and rainbow trout. However, **current conditions should be verified before visiting**, as recent reports indicate the reservoir level is significantly below normal full pool and North Bootlegger ramp is not recommended at this time. Boaters should contact local management or check current conditions to confirm water levels and ramp accessibility before making the trip. Camping is available on-site with a 14-day stay limit; bring your own water.
