About This Access Site
**Overview & Access**
North Freedom Park is a well-developed boat ramp and primary put-in/take-out location on the Baraboo River in Sauk County. The facility features an ADA-compliant landing with a gravel-topped ramp, ample parking, and restroom facilities. **Note:** Motorboats are prohibited at this location. The park is heavily used by paddlers and is a major hub for the Baraboo Canoe and Kayak Company.

**Paddling Conditions**
The Baraboo River here is slow-moving and ideal for paddling day trips, typically running 4-7 hours between access points. This section offers some of the most scenic stretches of the entire river, with beautiful wooded banks and good wildlife viewing opportunities. Be prepared for potential logjams and obstructions that may require portaging, particularly given the river's high, muddy banks in places. The segment from Highway 136 (near Ableman's Gorge) downstream to North Freedom is approximately 8.2 miles and passes notable landmarks including old railroad cars from the nearby Mid-Continent Railway Museum.

**What to Expect**
This is an excellent choice for kayakers and canoeists of all skill levels seeking a leisurely paddle through scenic countryside. The accessible dock makes entry straightforward, and the calm water conditions make it easy to pause for photography or wildlife observation.
