About This Access Site
North Lake Street provides public access to Lake Mendota in Madison and is maintained by Madison Parks. This developed boat ramp accommodates various watercraft including motorboats, sailboats, canoes, and kayaks. The facility serves both recreational users and the City of Madison Fire Department for emergency access. A Lake Access Permit is required year-round to park at this site—permits can be obtained on a daily or annual basis.

As Wisconsin's largest lake, Lake Mendota offers plenty of room for paddling and boating. Seasonal piers are available from spring through mid-fall for easier launching. Before heading out, verify current watercraft regulations and any seasonal restrictions with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, as these may vary by location and time of year. The North Lake Street location provides convenient access to central Madison for both casual paddlers and serious boaters.
