About This Access Site
Norway Point Landing in Grantsburg provides access to an exciting and challenging section of the Saint Croix River. This is the upper portion of the river known for steeper gradients, rocky bottoms, and moderate current that creates numerous riffles and Class I-II rapids. The concrete ramp is approximately 20 feet wide and suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and other recreational watercraft.

Paddlers launching from Norway Point should be prepared for more technical water than lower sections of the Saint Croix. The combination of fast-moving water, shallow areas, and rocky river bottom means this section works best for intermediate to experienced paddlers comfortable navigating around obstacles. This reach offers genuine paddling challenge compared to the wider, slower sections downstream, making it popular with those seeking more engaging whitewater and scenic conditions.

The site provides free access and is part of the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway. For detailed trip planning, current conditions, and interactive river maps, consult the National Park Service website. The river corridor includes designated camping zones with varying management policies, making it an excellent base for multi-day paddling trips.
