About This Access Site
Nutbush Bridge Creek Park provides 24-hour access to the 50,000-acre John H. Kerr Reservoir via two dedicated boat ramps, making it a reliable launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and larger recreational vessels. The facility is part of the John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir complex, which extends 39 miles up the Roanoke River with 800 miles of scenic wooded shoreline. Year-round camping is available on-site, including both tent camping and RV facilities with electric and water hookups for those planning extended trips.

The Roanoke River here is a major waterway with significant characteristics to understand: it drains a 9,393-square-mile watershed and carries an average flow of over 9,600 cubic feet per second. Current velocity averages 6.65 feet per second with a moderate gradient of 3.2 feet per mile, making this a substantial river system that demands respect, particularly during high-water periods. Conditions can vary seasonally—during unusually low water levels, some ramps may not extend fully into the water and could close, so it's worth checking current conditions before your visit.
