About This Access Site
The Odessa Wildlife Area offers excellent access to Lake Odessa and the surrounding 6,400-acre Odessa Water Trail system in Louisa County. This USACE-managed site features a boat ramp and dock, making it ideal for launching kayaks and canoes to explore the scenic wetland complex. The area is well-developed with amenities including a pavilion, picnic areas, and privy facilities.

Paddlers will find plenty to discover here, with three access points connecting to marked water trails that wind through shallow lakes, isolated ponds, timbered chutes, and marsh habitat. The landscape offers a mix of open water on the main lake and quieter backwater exploration through sloughs and connected waterways—ideal for both casual paddling and wildlife viewing. To reach the site from Odessa, take Highway 131 south, then Route OO west for 3 miles, and continue east on Odessa Lake Road.

The site provides excellent opportunities to explore diverse aquatic habitats and observe migratory birds and wildlife in this protected area. Consider consulting Chapter 12 of the Wildlife Code before your visit.
