About This Access Site
Okatibbee Reservoir offers a scenic paddling and boating destination in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. This 3,500-acre reservoir was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1968 to help control flooding along Okatibbee Creek.

The reservoir provides ample room for various water sports, with six public boat ramps available for access. Anglers can fish from the shoreline or launch their boats to target crappie, catfish, stripers, and bass. The Corps of Engineers maintains a full-service campground and several day-use areas around the lake, providing amenities for overnight visitors.

For paddlers, the reservoir offers a mix of open water and more sheltered coves to explore by canoe or kayak. The calm waters are well-suited for leisurely paddles, with the opportunity to spot wildlife along the shoreline. Boaters should be aware of submerged hazards and use caution, especially in windier conditions on the main lake. Overall, Okatibbee Reservoir offers an appealing outdoor recreation destination for both motorized and non-motorized watercraft.
