Old Ruby Ferry East provides boat access to the Pend Oreille River near Ruby in northeastern Washington. This is one of several launch points along the scenic Pend Oreille River Water Trail, a designated paddling route that features multiple access areas, historic points of interest, and recreational opportunities. The site is part of a larger network of launches available at Ione, Cusick, and Newport for easy river access.
The Pend Oreille River is a major waterway with distinctive characteristics: it's one of the few large U.S. rivers that flows northward and covers 141 miles with an average flow of over 26,000 cubic feet per second. With a gentle average gradient of 2.1 feet per mile and average current velocity of nearly 10 feet per second, the river offers relatively moderate paddling conditions suitable for canoeists and kayakers, though paddlers should respect the substantial water volume and current. The surrounding area features panoramic views and clear water, making it an attractive destination for small boat recreation.
For current information on amenities, fees, and conditions at this access point, consult the WDFW Pend Oreille River Water Trail maps and resources, which detail facilities at each access area.
