About This Access Site
One Pine Lake is a shallow, 261-acre lake located approximately 7 miles south of Ely in the Superior National Forest. The gravel boat ramp is accessed off the east side of CSAH 21, providing public access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The lake features bog-stained and soft water typical of the region, making it suitable for paddlers seeking scenic backcountry exploration.

The lake supports a variety of fish species including northern pike, bass, and bluegill, making it popular with anglers as well as recreational paddlers. One Pine Lake is part of a backcountry paddling area with campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis—campsites include fire grates, latrines, and picnic tables. Nearby, the Birch Lake Campground offers reservable camping options, and the area features 5 miles of scenic trails with Hogback ridges offering beautiful vistas and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
