About This Access Site
Oughton Park in Townsend provides public boat ramp access to Pickerel Lake, a 581-acre lake in the Nicolet National Forest area with a maximum depth of 17 feet. The access point is suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore this scenic northern Wisconsin lake. Note that water clarity is low, which is typical for lakes in this region.

Pickerel Lake is home to a variety of fish species including musky, panfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye, making it popular with anglers. Paddlers should be prepared for variable conditions common to forest lakes. Two campgrounds—Richardson Lake Campground and Boot Lake Campground—are located within 10 miles and offer reservable campsites for visitors planning an overnight trip.

For current conditions, facility details, hours, and any access fees, contact local Oneida County recreation resources or check the Wisconsin DNR website for public boat landing information.
