Oyster Creek Boat Ramp in Davis provides convenient access to Core Sound, a shallow coastal estuary ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and small motorboats. The ramp features 2 launching lanes, courtesy docks, and 15 trailer parking spots. This is a North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission access area located in the Atlantic Coastal Plain, offering direct water access to Core Sound and the surrounding estuarine system.
From this launch, paddlers can explore Core Banks and access Cape Lookout National Seashore, located just 3 miles offshore—making it an excellent base for day trips or longer adventures. A popular water trail leads to Great Island Ferry Dock, 3.6 miles away. The area is rich with wildlife viewing opportunities, including wild horses on Browns Island (visible from the water), birding, shelling, and fishing throughout the sound and reserve areas.
**Note:** Verify current access status and any fees before visiting, as this ramp has had periods of restricted access. Nearby camping options include South Core Banks for beach camping and Great Island Cabin Camp (reservable). Paddlers should stay on the water around Browns Island due to feral hogs and biting insects in the wooded areas.
