Packer Lake offers excellent paddling and boating opportunities for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. The lake sits at an elevation of 6,218 feet in the Sierra Nevada mountains, providing a picturesque high-altitude setting. A boat ramp and dock at the Packer Lake Lodge provides easy access to the water, with non-motorized boat rentals available on-site.
The lake is open to the public for recreation from roughly Memorial Day through Columbus Day weekend each year, weather permitting. While a more developed boat ramp is located at nearby Gold Lake, Packer Lake's ramp can accommodate the launching of small to medium-sized watercraft. Anglers will find rainbow and brook trout in the lake, making it a popular destination for fishing as well. Nearby campgrounds and the surrounding Tahoe National Forest provide ample opportunities for multi-day trips and further exploration of the region.
