Palacios Bay

Located in Palacios, Matagorda County, the Palacios Bay boat ramp provides access to Tres Palacios Bay, an inlet of the larger Matagorda Bay system. This is one of three public boat ramps in Palacios, offering convenient water access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The ramp is situated off Highway 35 near Carancahua Bay, making it easily accessible from the main road.

Paddlers launching here can explore calm, shallow marsh waters and inlets ideal for kayaking and canoeing. The area is popular for wildlife viewing, with opportunities to spot waterfowl such as Redheads and Buffleheads, along with occasional Osprey and other coastal birds. The protected marshes and bays surrounding the launch provide sheltered paddling conditions, though be prepared for wind, especially if venturing into more open water. Kayak rentals are available locally through outfitters like Grassy Point Kayak and Red Tide Boat Rentals if you don't have your own boat.

The bay supports various recreational activities beyond paddling, including fishing and wildlife observation. While the ramp has been improved in recent years, water levels can be shallow in some areas, so check conditions before launching, particularly during low tide.
