About This Access Site
Pat Mayse West is a developed federal recreation area offering convenient water access to Pat Mayse Lake on the Red River in Lamar County, Texas, about 12 miles north of Paris. The facility features two concrete boat ramps—one single-lane and one double-lane—making it well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and larger motorboats. The campground is open year-round with 88 sites (83 with electric hookups), plus amenities including flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station.

The lake itself provides calm, protected water ideal for paddlers of all skill levels, with excellent fishing for largemouth bass and opportunities for swimming. This is a family-friendly destination with developed park areas and easy shore access. Note that the site is not ADA accessible. To reach the ramp from Paris, take Highway 271 north for 12 miles to FM 906 W, continue 4 miles to FM 197, then head west 3 miles to CR 35810 and follow signs into the park. The lake provides excellent opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing. Anglers will find largemouth bass, white crappie, sunfish, striped bass and channel and flathead catfish, among other species.

Hunting is a very popular activity in the area. The surrounding lands are managed for upland game and whitetail deer. Other species present include fox squirrel, gray squirrel, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, cottontail rabbit, raccoon and fox. Opossum, beaver, mink, skunk and nutria are also present.

The lake also provides resting and feeding habitats for migratory waterfowl. A few miles north of the project area are the famed Red River Bottoms where waterfowl congregate in impressive numbers.Facilities
