The Payne Creek Campground boat ramp provides access to the Savannah River arm of Lake Hartwell, a popular reservoir in northeast Georgia. The ramp is part of the larger Lake Hartwell Camping and Cabins recreation area managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The boat ramp offers a paved launch area and ample parking, making it a convenient access point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. The campground also features 44 campsites with water and electric hookups, 37 of which are located right on the lake shore. Campground amenities include restrooms, a dump station, swim beaches, and hiking trails.
Lake Hartwell is a large impoundment of the Savannah River, covering over 56,000 acres when full. The lake offers ample opportunities for boating, fishing, and other water recreation. Paddlers and small boaters will find protected coves and inlets to explore along the lake's numerous arms and tributaries. However, the main lake body can experience windy conditions, so caution is advised for less experienced watercraft operators.
