Located at 6699 Peachtree Road in Socastee, Peach Tree is a small public boat ramp providing access to the Waccamaw River within the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge. The facility features a single concrete launching lane and seven trailer parking spaces, managed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. While parking is limited, the ramp offers reliable access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore the river.
The Waccamaw River is a large, meandering waterway (Stream Order 7) flowing approximately 145 miles to the ocean. With an average flow of nearly 2,000 cubic feet per second and a gentle gradient of 0.3 feet per mile, the river offers relatively calm, manageable paddling conditions suitable for various skill levels. Current speeds average around 2.3 feet per second. The surrounding refuge protects diverse wetland habitats, making this an excellent location for wildlife viewing—expect to encounter alligators, osprey, swallow-tailed kites, and prothonotary warblers. Multiple paddling routes are available from this access point, offering opportunities for both day trips and longer explorations of the preserved landscape.
