Pearce River boat ramp provides access to Lake Mead, the massive reservoir created by Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. Located in Meadview in Mohave County, Arizona, this access point serves the northern portion of Lake Mead. The Colorado River system that feeds this lake is a major waterway draining much of the western United States, with a total length of 892 miles and an average flow of over 2200 cubic feet per second. Lake Mead itself offers a dramatically different paddling experience than the river upstream, as the water is impounded and generally calm, making it suitable for various types of boating.
Boaters using this access should be aware that Lake Mead can experience significant wind and wave action, particularly in open areas. The lake supports motorboats, sailboats, and personal watercraft in addition to paddlecraft, so traffic awareness is important. The reservoir fluctuates seasonally and has experienced historically low water levels in recent years, which may affect launch conditions and require checking current lake levels before visiting. Water temperature in Lake Mead varies by season, and weather in the Mohave Desert can be extreme, with intense sun and heat during summer months.
The surrounding landscape is high desert with limited shade or services immediately at the ramp. Visitors should come prepared with adequate water, sun protection, and supplies, as amenities may be minimal. The Meadview area itself is remote, so it's advisable to fuel up and gather provisions before heading to the access point. Current conditions and any water level restrictions should be verified with local authorities or the National Park Service before launching.
