About This Access Site
Penhook #9 Boat Ramp on Smith Mountain Lake provides convenient lake access for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. The facility features a two-lane concrete boat ramp with courtesy docks, making it easy to launch and load your watercraft. There is ample paved parking for 42 vehicles with trailers, as well as a handicap-accessible fishing pier.

Located off Burnt Chimney Road, this launch site is an ideal access point for exploring Smith Mountain Lake. At over 20,000 acres, the lake offers plenty of room to paddle, fish, or cruise its scenic waters. The ramp's dusk-to-dawn lighting and new restrooms (open seasonally) add to the convenience for recreational users. Paddlers and boaters will find Penhook #9 to be a well-equipped, easy-to-use access point for enjoying the beauty of Smith Mountain Lake.
