Picacho State Park provides access to the Colorado River via a boat ramp. This section of the Colorado River is classified as a major river, with a total length of 1,076 miles, an average flow of 14,295 cubic feet per second, and an average gradient of 8.7 feet per mile.
The boat ramp offers a convenient put-in for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. However, access to the park can be challenging, as Picacho Road has areas with deep sand, and a high-clearance, 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Alternatively, visitors can access the park via the steeper Indian Pass Road.
Once on the water, paddlers and boaters can enjoy the river's peaceful setting and diverse wildlife. The river's size and flow make it suitable for a range of recreational activities, from leisurely floats to more adventurous trips. Nearby recreation areas, such as the Senator Wash Boat Ramp Day Use Area and the Picacho Peak Wilderness, provide additional opportunities for exploration and enjoyment of this scenic section of the Colorado River.
