About This Access Site
Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area offers boat ramp access to Messick Lake and the surrounding 11,794-acre property in LaGrange County. The area features 529 acres of lakes and impoundments plus 17 miles of the free-flowing Pigeon River, with diverse habitat including hardwoods, wetlands, and upland fields. Multiple boat ramps are available throughout the property for paddlers and boaters.

Kayakers and canoeists are welcome, though paddling restrictions apply during waterfowl season—contact the office ahead of time for current regulations. Swimming is not permitted. Basic facilities include pit toilets at the park headquarters and Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station. A convenience station in nearby Mongo, Indiana offers gas and snacks. Note that the Fish & Wildlife Area has no paved trails, so access is primarily water-based.
