About This Access Site
The Pike River Flowage North access point offers a convenient gravel boat ramp located off State Highway 1, just upstream of the impounding dam near Tower. This 254-acre reservoir, situated five miles west of Tower, provides easy water access for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters looking to explore a scenic flowage lake. The ramp's location near the dam makes it ideal for paddlers interested in the upstream portions of Pike River Flowage.

The flowage is fed by the Pike River from the west and drains over the dam into Pike Bay on Lake Vermilion, offering paddlers the option to explore both the reservoir and potentially venture into the larger lake system. With its modest size and protected dam location, Pike River Flowage is well-suited for recreational paddling and fishing. Nearby paddlers should note that Lake Vermilion itself is a massive 40,000-acre lake with 365 islands and the most shoreline of any Minnesota lake, providing extensive exploration opportunities for those seeking a larger paddling destination.
