About This Access Site
Pittsburgh Landing, located just south of White Bird on Idaho County Road, provides one of the few boat access points to the Snake River's dramatic Hells Canyon—North America's deepest river gorge. This year-round facility can accommodate large trailers with jetboats and rafts, featuring paved roads, accessible parking, and restroom facilities. Note that while the parking area is accessible, the boat ramp itself is not ADA-accessible.

The Snake River here is a major waterway with substantial flow, averaging nearly 50,000 cubic feet per second with average velocities around 11 feet per second. The river's steep gradient (15.8 ft/mile) creates fast-moving water that can reach peak flows exceeding 90,000 cfs during high water periods. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for challenging current conditions and plan accordingly. The nearby Pittsburgh Campground makes this a convenient basepoint for multi-day trips, and an interpretive site featuring Native American rock art is located just upriver.

To reach the launch from White Bird, head south on Highway 95 about 0.5 miles to Old Highway 95 at mile marker 222, then turn right and continue approximately 1 mile to the landing.
