About This Access Site
The Plaquemine boat ramp provides access to the Mississippi River in downtown Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, located along Louisiana Highway 1. To reach the ramp, turn east onto Court Street at the end of LA 1 and cross the levee to access the launch area. This is a basic, bare-bones facility with minimal amenities, so plan accordingly.

Be prepared for the Mississippi River's powerful current and scale. At this location, you're accessing a major river (Stream Order 10) with an average flow of approximately 685,000 cubic feet per second and typical velocities around 11 feet per second. The river here is wide and deep with significant barge traffic. Paddlers should have solid river experience and understand strong current dynamics. This site is best suited for motorboats and experienced paddlers rather than casual canoeists or beginners.

Given the ramp's noted lack of maintenance, call ahead or arrive early to assess conditions. Water levels and access can vary seasonally on the Mississippi River, so check current conditions before launching.
