Platte Falls Conservation Area, located off I-29 near Platte City in Platte County, offers convenient access to the Platte River with a unique layout ideal for paddlers. The site features two boat ramps positioned on either side of the river's distinctive "duck head" formation. This setup allows kayakers and canoeists to launch from the upstream ramp and float downstream to the lower ramp, completing a scenic 2.5+ mile paddle without requiring a vehicle shuttle—perfect for solo paddlers or small groups.
To access the south side boat ramps from I-29, take the Platte City exit and head east 0.6 mile on Route HH. Turn left on Knighton Road and continue to the launch areas. The Platte River in this section offers a leisurely paddling experience suitable for recreational boaters and anglers, with opportunities to fish the banks along the way. The float typically takes around two hours at a relaxed pace. This is one of three primary access points on the Platte River in the area, making it a reliable spot for both paddlers and fishing enthusiasts.
