Pleasant Creek Water Management Area offers a concrete boat ramp on Tygart Lake near Grafton, providing convenient access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. To reach the ramp, turn in at the Pleasant Creek Wildlife Management Area sign and travel 3.3 miles into the area. The lake itself is a scenic, 2,130-acre impoundment nestled in the rolling hills of eastern West Virginia, created by Tygart Dam—the first of 16 flood control projects authorized in the Pittsburgh District under the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1935.
The relatively calm lake waters make this an excellent destination for recreational paddling and family outings. Anglers will find excellent fishing opportunities, including rock bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, walleye, muskellunge, and catfish species, with rainbow trout stocked in the tailwaters below the dam. The site is well-positioned for multi-day trips, as Tygart Lake State Park Campground (40 sites) is located on the southern shore of the lake, just across the water from this access point.
