About This Access Site
Located just 0.75 miles east of downtown Newport off Highway 2, Pondoray Shores provides convenient public access to the Pend Oreille River. The site is part of Pioneer Park Campground, which offers both day-use and overnight camping options for paddlers and boaters. To reach the ramp, cross the Pend Oreille River bridge and turn left on LeClerc Road, traveling 2 miles north. For reservations or facility information, contact Pioneer Park at 509-447-7300.

The Pend Oreille River is a major waterway with substantial flow (averaging over 26,000 cubic feet per second) and moderate current (averaging 9.84 feet per second). Paddlers should expect a river with steady flow and be prepared for conditions typical of this large, established water corridor. The river's 141-mile length and designation as a water trail makes it popular for multi-day canoe and kayak trips, with this access point serving the northern sections of the route.

Pioneer Park offers amenities beyond the boat ramp, including the Pioneer Park Heritage Trail that highlights the history of the Kalispel Tribe, fishing opportunities, swimming areas, and nearby Newport for supplies or services. This makes it an ideal base for paddlers planning river trips or looking for a day outing on the water.
