Pools Bluff

Pools Bluff provides access to the Pearl River, a major river system spanning 435 miles through Louisiana and Mississippi. This is a substantial waterway with an average flow of over 13,000 cubic feet per second and moderate current (3.71 ft/sec), making it suitable for experienced paddlers and motorboats. The ramp is located just east of LA Highway 21 in Washington Parish County, near the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge, which offers scenic paddling opportunities straddling the Louisiana-Mississippi border.

**Important:** A lowhead dam/sill is located at the head of the barge canal just east of the ramp. Boaters and paddlers should exercise extreme caution and plan to portage around this dam if using this access point. The dam creates a significant hazard that should not be underestimated. Check current conditions before launching, especially given the river's substantial flow and size.
