The Poplar Branch boat ramp provides convenient access to Currituck Sound in mainland Currituck County. Located at 101 Poplar Branch Road, the facility features two boat ramps (both floating and fixed), courtesy docks, a bulkhead wall, and a paved parking area. To reach the ramp from US 158, turn onto NC 3 and follow it to the end of the road—approximately 1.1 miles total.
Currituck Sound is a large, shallow brackish water body ideal for kayaking and canoeing, offering relatively calm conditions suitable for paddlers of various skill levels. The area provides access to the scenic northern Outer Banks region and is adjacent to the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1984 to protect the coastal barrier island ecosystem. This makes Poplar Branch an excellent launching point for exploring the sound's wildlife viewing opportunities and natural areas.
