About This Access Site
The Port of Burlington - South provides access to the Mississippi River, one of North America's major waterways. Located north of Burlington on Des Moines County Highway 99 (approximately 7 miles from town, near Kingston), this ramp is managed by the Des Moines County Conservation Board. To reach the ramp, turn east on 225th Avenue from Highway 99, then north on Lake Road. A shelter house and dock facilities are available on-site.

**Important access conditions:** This ramp is **only accessible when the Mississippi River stage at Burlington is below 13.5 feet**. A boat dock is available when water levels exceed 10.5 feet. Be sure to check current river conditions before visiting, as the Mississippi's water level varies seasonally and with rainfall. The river at this location flows at an average of over 685,000 cubic feet per second with moderate current (averaging 11.24 feet/second), so paddlers and boaters should be prepared for significant water movement and plan accordingly. This is a major river system requiring appropriate experience and equipment.
