About This Access Site
Powder House Cove provides boat launch access to Prineville Reservoir on the Crooked River in the Juniper Canyon area near Prineville, Oregon. This day-use-only facility is located 14.9 miles south of Prineville on State Highway 27 and offers a concrete boat ramp, picnic tables, and vault toilet facilities at no cost. The ramp is open year-round as conditions allow, though water levels fluctuate seasonally—expect variable ramp conditions depending on reservoir elevation and recent maintenance.

Kayakers and canoeists will find this location convenient for accessing the reservoir's calmer waters. The nearby Upper Lone Pine Day-Use Area, just 1.6 miles upriver, offers additional services including an accessible fishing pier and swimming area. Potable water is available year-round at Chimney Rock Campground, 1.6 miles west on State Highway 27. Several campgrounds are within 10 miles, including Palisades, Poison Butte, and Post Pile, making this a good base for multi-day paddling trips. Before launching, contact the local ranger station (541-416-6700) to confirm current ramp conditions and water levels.
