About This Access Site
The Prairie Creek Campground boat ramp provides access to the scenic Alabama River, a major waterway that flows for over 300 miles across central Alabama. With its large drainage area and average flow rate of over 34,000 cubic feet per second, the Alabama River offers excellent opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating.

The boat ramp is located within the Prairie Creek Campground, which is a reservable facility operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground sits along Woodruff Lake, part of the Alabama River system, and the ramp allows easy access to the main river channel. This location is well-suited for launching small watercraft to explore the river and nearby areas like the Lowndes Wildlife Management Area. Anglers will find excellent fishing for bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish in the lake and river.

While specific details on hours or fees are not available, the Prairie Creek boat ramp provides a convenient put-in point for paddlers, anglers, and recreational boaters looking to enjoy the Alabama River. With its large scale and moderate gradient, the river is suitable for a variety of non-motorized and motorized watercraft.
