Located in Fairmont at the confluence of Prickett's Creek and the Monongahela River, this 188-acre state park offers convenient public access to the Monongahela River's Opekiska Pool. The facility features a dedicated boat launch with trailer parking, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The park is one of two primary Fairmont-area access points for the river, allowing paddlers to explore the scenic pool that winds through West Virginia's mountains.
Beyond water access, Pricketts Fort State Park provides excellent amenities for visitors, including public restrooms, picnic areas, and nature trails. The site serves as a trailhead for both the Mon River Trail to Morgantown and the MCPARC trail to Fairmont. A reconstructed 18th-century frontier fort and visitor center add cultural and historical context to a visit. The park's birding observation deck makes it a good basecamp for multi-activity trips combining paddling with exploration of the area's natural and historical features.
