About This Access Site
Promontory Park offers convenient access to Proctor Lake via two lighted, 2-lane concrete boat ramps with a maximum parking capacity of 50 vehicles. Located in Comanche County, the facility is easily accessible from Comanche via Highway 16 north (12 miles) to Downing, then right on FM 2318 for 5 miles to the park entrance. The ramps provide protected launch areas suitable for kayaks, canoes, and larger boats, with nearby camping available for extended trips.

Proctor Lake is a popular destination for water recreation, known primarily for excellent fishing (bass, shad, crappie, and hybrid striped bass), but also welcoming to paddlers and boaters. The lake sits in the scenic Cross Timbers Region with historic significance in Comanche Indian territory. Beyond the main ramps, the nearby Copperas Creek Park offers an additional day-use boat ramp and swim beach. For more information or to reserve campsites, contact Promontory at 254-893-7545.
