About This Access Site
Located in Mystic near the Chariton River and Rathbun Lake in southern Iowa, this boat ramp provides access to an expansive 11,000-acre reservoir nestled in the rolling hills of the Chariton River Valley. The marina facility includes a concrete boat ramp, dock, and on-site amenities to support paddlers and boaters launching into the lake.

The access area offers full facilities including flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station, along with a nearby bait shop. This makes it a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and powerboaters exploring the lake. The calm, lake-like conditions of Rathbun Lake make it suitable for paddlers of varying skill levels, and the area is known for excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including bald eagles, white-tailed deer, Canada geese, and wild turkey. Over 700 campsites are available throughout the recreation area for those planning overnight trips.
