About This Access Site
Located in Mystic near the Chariton River and Rathbun Lake, this access point serves as the primary boat launch for the expansive 11,000-acre Rathbun Lake reservoir in southern Iowa's rolling hills. The marina facility offers a concrete boat ramp, dock access, and on-site amenities including flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station—making it a well-equipped launch for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.

The Rathbun Lake area provides excellent recreational opportunities across a scenic landscape dotted with wooded shorelines and open water. Paddlers can expect to encounter wildlife typical of the Chariton River Valley, including bald eagles, white-tailed deer, Canada geese, and wild turkey. The site connects to over 700 campsites available throughout the recreation area, making it convenient for multi-day paddling trips or extended visits. A marina and bait shop are available nearby for additional services and supplies.
