Red Bluff Diversion Dam

The Red Bluff Diversion Dam provides access to the Sacramento River, one of California's major waterways. The boat ramp is located at the southern end of Sale Lane in Red Bluff, Tehama County.

This section of the Sacramento River is a large, fast-flowing river, with an average flow of over 38,000 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of nearly 7 feet per second. The river has a total drop of over 9,000 feet from its headwaters to the ocean, with an average gradient of 22.4 feet per mile. Paddlers and boaters should exercise caution due to the river's size and power.

The boat ramp is part of the Red Bluff Recreation Area, which offers diverse natural habitats along the river. While visitor facilities are currently closed, the boat ramp remains open year-round unless flooding or high winds occur. Nearby campgrounds are available for those looking to extend their river adventures. Paddlers and boaters should check current conditions and water releases from Shasta Dam before heading out.

The sparkling Sacramento River bisects 488 acres of riparian forest, flowering grasslands, wetlands, and oak woodlands providing very diverse nature viewing experiences. Visitor facilities are closed.
