About This Access Site
The Red Bluff Recreation Area provides access to the Sacramento River via a well-maintained boat ramp. The Sacramento is a major headwater river, flowing over 400 miles from its source to the ocean with an average flow of nearly 39,000 cubic feet per second. This section of the river has an average gradient of 22 feet per mile, making it a popular destination for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters.

The boat ramp is open year-round, though it may be closed during periods of high water or strong winds. Nearby facilities include restrooms, showers, and a campground. Other public boat ramps along the Sacramento River in this area can be found at Balls Ferry, Barge Hole, Jelly's Ferry, and Bend Bridge. The Red Bluff Recreation Area is managed by the Mendocino National Forest, and reservations may be required.

Paddlers and boaters should be aware of the Sacramento River's powerful flow and prepare accordingly. Life jackets are essential, and boaters should check river conditions before launching. This section of the river flows through a mix of public and private lands, so respecting private property boundaries is important.
