Red Hills Lake is a scenic state park access point located in Lawrence County near Sumner, situated approximately midway between Lawrenceville and Olney on U.S. Route 50. The boat ramp is positioned on the southwest corner of the dam, providing convenient access to the lake year-round. The lake is surrounded by a paved road that offers excellent access points for bank fishing as well as paddling opportunities.
**Important Boating Restrictions:** This is an electric or human-powered watercraft only lake—gas motors are prohibited during operation. Gas motors may only be used for loading and unloading boats at the ramp. This restriction makes it ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and paddleboarders seeking a quiet water experience. The lake supports a healthy fish population including bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, and channel catfish, making it popular with anglers as well as recreational paddlers.
Red Hills Lake offers beautiful natural scenery, particularly during fall when the surrounding trees display vibrant colors. The lake was drained and rehabilitated in 2008 with fish restocked in 2009, ensuring good water quality and a thriving aquatic ecosystem. Two poles and line fishing only is permitted, and the lake remains open year-round for paddlers and boaters.
